New publication August 2000. In German. Bochum: Bochum University Press; 2nd edition 2000 (Denk-Schriften / Scripts of Thought; vol. 1), 67 pp., DM 19,90, ISBN 3-934453-08-2

The author asks the question what does exist. Do all things and all perceptions which are logically possible exist in the same way like our real universe does exist? He shows that this is possibly not the case, presenting several arguments: one argument which is based on the assumption that there are laws of physics, and a second one which is based on quantum theory. All arguments are based on probability theory.
For the case that not all things and perceptions exist which are logically possible, he calls this the probability-paradox of existence. For the case that the paradox is true, he presents the following possible solution to it: matter and the universe would exist in the form of an emulation. We would live in a universe which is an element of a set of universes in which inhabitants develop who would emulate this set of universes. He explains this solution in detail, and he shows why this possible solution seems to solve the paradox indeed.
He demonstrates that this solution cannot be refuted. He presents several possibilities how it may be realised physically according to current theories. He shows that single of these possibilities can be tested experimentally in future.
He investigates, among other things, the error-rate which could occur during the emulation of the universe and why this error-rate may be zero. He shows that this emulation might be no single emulation but a sequence containing an infinite number of emulations, which cover a larger and larger part of the universe, and that all results of these and further investigations are in accordance with our experiences with our universe.
Additionally he shows that, according to the solution, the interpretation of quantum theory would simplify. He presents two new interpretations, the emulation interpretation, and, as a special case, the some-worlds interpretation.
Further, he shows that, according to the solution, a new hypothetical solution of the body-mind problem would emerge.
The alternative case is that all things and all perceptions which are logically possible exist in the same way like our real universe does exist. The author demonstrates why, according to further investigations, he definitely favours this alternative. He derives some hypotheses for this alternative according to which at first much weaker results hold, he derives results concerning free parameters of the laws of physics of our universe and further results concerning the interpretation of quantum physics. He also derives arguments that the above mentioned results may almost unchangedly hold for this alternative, too.
